  • How does tutoring with The School Coaches work?
The School Coaches matches tutors with families for the remainder of the scholastic year. Once you're matched with a family, scheduling is between you and them. Families expect a minimum of one regularly scheduled session per week of at least one hour in length.
  • I want to tutor! Now what?
The interview process has two steps. The first is a screening phone call, and the second is an in-person interview. After the interview process and a clean background check, you're eligible to be matched with families!
  • Do you provide any materials?
The School Coaches does not provide any materials to tutors. Tutors should bring their own materials to sessions or work with students on material provided by the school.
  • How many hours per week can I expect?
All families expect a minimum of one regularly scheduled session per week of at least one hour. Most tutors do between 1 and 5 hours per week.
  • What is the pay range?
Rates vary based on tutor experience, needs of the student, and level of service provided. In most common cases, tutors can expect to be paid $40 per hour of tutoring performed.
  • What requirements are there for potential tutors?
A college degree and/or current college enrollment is required. Tutors must also have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and pass a clean background check. Tutors with experience are highly preferred.
  • I can't drive my student to the tutoring session. Can the tutor help with transport?
No. For liability reasons, tutors cannot transport students to or from school or tutoring sessions.
  • What subjects can you tutor?
We can tutor any and all subjects at any grade level!
  • What services do you provide?
We help students succeed inside and outside the classroom by matching students with the right tutor for them. Our tutors help students learn to organize, study, and prioritize. They provide support and take the burden of managing every part your student's education off your plate. Of course, our tutors always help students learn the curriculum too!
  • What is your cancellation policy?
Any cancellation past noon on the day of the session is charged. Sessions cancelled for illness before noon are not charged. Sessions cancelled the night before a session is scheduled are not charged. Late arrival to sessions is charged.
  • How does the matching process work?
The matching process begins with a phone call to understand the issues your family is facing. A free in-person consultation with the parent(s) and student follows. Understanding your student helps us match them with the best possible tutor. Tutors and families are matched based on personality, subject matter experience, availability, and location. Matches last for the remainder of the scholastic year, and can be extended at your request.
  • What do you charge?
Rates vary based on subject matter, student need, and tutor experience level. Typical rates range from $60-80 per hour.
  • How can I pay?
We currently accept app-based payments (Zelle, Venmo, CashApp), checks, and cash. We are unable to accept ACH payments and credit cards at this time.
  • Do you offer SAT/ACT tutoring?
Yes, we do! Feel free to contact us to discuss our test prep services.
  • Where can tutoring sessions take place?
Tutoring sessions can take place in public locations, such as libraries and coffee shops, or they can take place in the family home. If sessions take place in the family home, a parent, grandparent, or legal guardian MUST be inside the home at all times. Because our tutors are not employees of your student's school system, schools will not allow tutoring sessions to take place on campus.
  • How does scheduling work?
All scheduling is between the tutor and the family. To ensure that we are able to provide the best tutors, families are expected to commit to at least one regularly scheduled session per week of at least one hour in length.
  • The tutor match didn't work out. Can I have a new tutor?
While we always endeavor to get the match right the first time, we understand that sometimes it is not a good fit. If that happens, you will be rematched with a new tutor.
  • How are tutors selected?
All tutors who are affiliated with The School Coaches pass a thorough background check and a rigorous interview process. All of our tutors have relevant experience working with students of the age level they are matched with.
  • Do you provide any supplemental materials?
No. Our tutors work with material provided by the schools. If you wish to use supplemental material, that must be arranged between you and your tutor.
